01 / 08A reason to begin

Bring one moment into the light.

A small frustration. Something you want to hold onto. An ordinary encounter. We will look at the same moment eight ways, then take it back into life.

Turn toward發心

Based on 藉心經說真諦, the teacher’s Heart Sutra commentary.

为利众生愿成佛
Excerpt from page 659 ↗

The teacher explains reliance on Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, then joins the wish for one's own liberation with the wish to benefit beings. Words are a means of entering observation and practice.

How this exercise adapts it

Naming an intention here is a reflection. It does not perform the book's act of taking refuge or confer a spiritual commitment.

Pages follow the scan sequence in our reader. Chinese excerpts follow the local source text; explanatory English is our paraphrase. These eight movements are an editorial synthesis, not the book’s chapter structure.
